MEASUREMENT GUIDE
CAPE2CANE Dog Measurement Guide
For Breast Plates & Collars.
To ensure your dog’s plate or collar fits correctly, please follow the measurement instructions below.Use a flexible sewing tape measure and keep your dog standing naturally during all measurements. Please ensure to double-check all measurements before submitting them with your order. MEASUREMENT POINTS1 - Neck Width:Measure straight across the top of the neck (side to side), from the base of one side of the neck to the other. This helps us size the comfort and width of the top plate section. 2 - Around Neck (Neck Circumference):Wrap the tape all the way around the dog’s neck, midway between:The cheek boneThe top of the shoulder muscleEnsure the tape is firm but not tight. 3 - Girth (Chest Circumference):Measure the entire circumference of the chest at the widest point, usually just behind the front legs. This determines the main fit of the breast plate. 4 - Brisket to Girth (Vertical Drop):Start at the top of the brisket bone (centre of the chest, below the neck) and measure straight down to the girth line. This tells us how far the plate needs to reach without restricting the legs.
5 - Around Chest (Chest Strap Position):Measure around the dog’s body where the main chest strap will sit — generally 1–2 inches behind the front legs, depending on breed.Keep the tape horizontal and level. Optional Extra Measurements (For Best Custom Fit)
6 - Body Length (Front of Shoulder to Back of Shoulder):Measure from the front point of the shoulder to the rear shoulder muscle.Helps refine the side panel fit.
7 - Height (Shoulder to Ground):Useful for deep-chested or tall dogs.
8 - Between Front Legs (Inside Chest Width):Measure from the inside edge of one leg to the inside edge of the other.Helps prevent rubbing and ensures enough clearance. Please read before measuring:- Your dog must be standing naturally, not sitting or leaning.- Keep the tape snug but not tight.- Re-measure each section twice.- Avoid estimating — every dog’s build is different.- Do not rely on your dog’s weight alone for sizing.- If unsure between two sizes, choose the larger measurement or request custom sizing.
All CAPE2CANE plates and collars are hand-crafted, so accurate measurements ensure a perfect fit and maximum comfort for your working dog.
